The Conventional Solutions
Typically, spectacles and contact lenses are two solutions to the problem of refractive errors. However, both solutions are not ideal. In the case of spectacles, there is the inconvenience of handling them and wearing them. They constrain freedom of movement, add a significant weight to the face, and they sometimes don’t give a good cosmetic feeling either. They often cause great annoyance, for example, when they fog up in the rain. They also cause objects viewed through them to change size. They also cause a loss of peripheral vision.
Contact lenses obviate many of these problems, but at a considerable price. It is difficult to maintain contact lenses, and they make the eyes prone to a variety of infections. Over a long time, many patients simply become intolerant to them. Also, they also constrain freedom of movement, and many people spend a good part of the day taking care of them. Besides, they are generally not recommended for 24 hours use, and spectacles still need to be worn in the interim. Besides, if spectacles or lenses are forgotten or misplaced, it places the person at a considerable visual disadvantage.
