Who is a good candidate?
All patients who have varicosities due the venous insufficiency of the Greater or Short Saphena vein can be treated with the laser procedure. Some patients, may not be found to be suitable candidates, after colour Doppler study, and they will be advised more conventional treatments.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure takes between 30-60 minutes per leg, depending on the extent of the disease, and the obesity of the patient. Normally, the procedure is done under local anesthesia. In exceptional cases, general anesthesia may be necessary.
What are the post-operative precautions necessary?
Normally, you will be advised compression stockings for a few days. You may be prescribed some painkillers, and some antibiotics. You need not stay in the hospital, though you may be asked to return in a week’s time to assess the success of the treatment.
